Eurovision 2017
Eurovision is over for another year and so ends another bonkers musical extravoganza. This years highlights included a horse atop a ladder having an epileptic fit and the dawning of a new age of rap yodeling. However the result saw Portugal with the most boring ballad of all time win, hopefully this will be forgotten and next year something bat shit crazy will win.

David Bowie
For those of you who don't know David Bowie passed away during the week, condolences to his family and friends. As a fan I hope he enjoyed his final days as much as he enjoyed the rest of his life. I've had the music and albums playing all week and to celebrate Davids career here's my top 10 David Bowie tracks;
10 Magic Dance, the first time I saw David was in Labyrinth which included this memorable song...
9 Blue Jean, David at his catchiest.
8 Absolute Beginners, the title track from the film of the same name a rather underrated track in this bloggers opinion.
7 Under Pressure the classic collaboration with Queen...
6 Life on Mars, an amazing stand out moment from David and a song that became further enriched by the TV series of the same name.
5 Golden Years, perhaps the most well known track from the 'plastic soul' era.
4 Underground, the main song from Labyrinth and for my generation the song most associated with David, revisiting the 'plastic soul' era with added venom.
3 Hallo Spaceboy, David teams up with another of my favourite acts with an electric result.
2 Young Americans, the funkier side of Davids journey into soul.
1. Heroes, David Bowie and Brian Eno, this isn't a song its solid sound carved out of granite.

Who will replace Jason Orange in Take That?
Ladies and gentle readers, it can't have escaped your attention that over the last week Jason Orange has announced that he is leaving Take That. Sadly as a result this happened:
Fortunately for Boy Band fans of the land Gary Barlow has been on the phone to yours truly and asked me to put together a short list for replacements. I can exclusively reveal the contenders that I have provided for Gary to consider:
1. Nick Clegg
What Take That need is someone to hover in the background trying but failing to look impressive as he is overshadowed by the bigger personalities.
2. Bruce Forsythe
Its a fact of life that Take That have been going since the early 90's and as a result their fanbase has started to age. Why not bite the bullet and recruit a member to appeal to the blue rinse section of the Take Thaters? Also he's available after retiring from Strictly Come Prancing.
3. Starscream from the Decepticons
This would be an appointment to keep Gary Barlow on his toes, Gary as we all know has long been the leader of Take That and has had an easy ride since Robbie Williams mellowed. Why not recruit Starscream who was forever plotting to overthrow Megatron and take control of the Decepticons? It will certainly be more interesting for us non Take That fans to watch the internal politics as Starscream tries to recruit Mark Owen and the other one to his way of thinking.
4. Luis Suarez
Lets be honest who cares about Barcelona these days? No one thats who, Luis left Liverpool FC and quite frankly its going to be all downhill for the rest of his career. What he needs is to leave football and take his career in a new direction. He already has a fanbase that be can bring to Take That and can hopefully help them crack the lucrative South America market.
5. @fudgecrumpet off of twitter
Lets be honest in the world of Boy Bands its all about selling sex appeal and no body likes to flaunt their funky stuff on twitter more than @fudgecrumpet. Don't go trying to look for anyone sexier on social media because you wont find them.
6. WALL-E
One for the kids, WALL-E starred in a hit film for Disney a few years back and was a hit with the kids. WALL-E hasn't done much since then but is still a favourite with the kids, WALL-E has the potential to attract a third generation of Take That fans and help swell Gary Barlows offshore accounts for another decade.
Well readers, all I can do is pass this list along to Gary Barlow and wait to see what he makes of it. We will have to wait to see who of the above will be having knickers flung at them by the women of the nation at Take Thats next tour...

A day with your album collection
I write this blog on the evening of 17/06/14, today I woke up feeling tired and not knowing what to do with myself, after a lazy lie in and morning trip to town I suddenly had an urge to hear a song I hadn't played in ages. Due to a house move move of my album collection is located in two chests (the non mp3 download section of it that is) and in digging the out the album I found a shed load of stuff I hadn't heard in ages and had forgot I had.
To my surprise I own two Idlewild albums - I thought I only had one single of a particular track I liked but no they were one of those bands I took a risk with and it didn't pay off. I also found I owned Too-Rye-Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners which has a classic live version of Come on Eileen which has been played very loudly this afternoon.
From the recent stuff I think my most relistened to albums of the past ten years or so are Lungs by Florence and the Machine and Late Registration by Kanye West. Although there is a good chance Ladyhawke by Ladyhawke will overtake them.
Also looking at the recent purchases there is a lot of 90's stuff I didn't get at he time like Cassanova by The Divine Comedy and Odelay by Beck.
Anyway ladies and gentle readers to the point of this blog, every so often if you love your music you've just got to take a day and geek out to your record collection. I sign off this entry to the blog with a video of my favourite live track in my collection:
